UWA Staff: Commissioner Joanie Laurer

Background: The vertitable Commissioner of the Universal Wrestling Association, Joanie Laurer has been responsible for enforcing the rules since day 1. Her fairness is her defining characteristic, as her rulings aren't always popular, but always dished out even handedly.

In 2004, however, Joanie's regime came under fire from Steve Corino. Angry about Laurer's involvement in his Universal Title loss to Lightning, Corino accused her of showing favoritism to the company's more popular wrestlers while erecting a glass ceiling to prevent himself and others from rising to the top. Corino led an Anti-Joanie Alliance into the End Game cage at Game Time 2005 to face a Laurer-led team. Corino was victorious, and Joanie was expelled from the promotion she helped build.

Corino took Joanie's place as Commissioner, and he ruled in a much more partisan fashion. Corino's rulings often disfavored Laurer "favorites," namely Panther, while providing benefits for those wrestlers that were closest to him. Unwilling to watch her former position be sullied any longer, Joanie returned in the Summer of 2005 to exact her revenge on the King of Old School. Corino and Laurer did battle at Hell on Earth 2005, and the year-long conflict between the two culminated when Laurer pinned Corino to regain her position as Commissioner.

Since then, Joanie continues to run the UWA's day-to-day operations in a fair, even-handed manner.
